This page is for explaining the overhaul and new mechanics introduced in Sanctum of Alteration since the update on 25th September 2023 (ver 2.5.15).

Quick Reference

Here is a simplified ver of the differences between old and new Sanctum of Alteration mechanics:

  1. There are now 3 different difficulty modes: Easy, Normal, and Extreme
  2. Old Sanctum of Alteration is categorized as Normal mode
  3. Daily unit restriction has been moved from "after clearing stage in Zone 4 and 5" to "after clearing stage in Extreme mode", and only applies to the following stages in Extreme mode
  4. Every Zone now has Recommended Unit(s) for every stage
  5. RNG enemy formation has been removed, now there will be only 1 fixed enemy formation in each wave
  6. Instead of gradually increasing enemy level by Zones, now there is fixed enemy level for every Zone, and the level changes depending on difficulty mode
  7. There is an enemy info viewer for each wave in the stage before entering the stage

Introduction

Sanctum of Alteration has been overhauled and new mechanics have been added to allow more players to enjoy the content, shifting the focus of mid-endgame content to early-endgame content. Similar to Challenge, Daily Training and Infinite War, the units' HP and Affection remain unchanged in Sanctum of Alteration, regardless of retreating from or clearing the stages. However, unlike Challenge and Daily Training, the stages in Sanctum of Alteration will require squad deployment costs.

The caps for maximum amount of Alternium/Refined Alternium that player can keep in their inventory: Alternium is 999,999, Refined Alternium is 9,999. The caps can't be increased in any way.

Difficulty Modes

There are 3 difficulty modes in Sanctum of Alteration:

  • Easy: will have only normal variant enemies, and their level is fixed at level 60
  • Normal: will have some amount of elite variant enemies, and their level is fixed at level 120
  • Extreme: will have higher count of elite variant enemies, and their level is fixed at level 180

All 3 difficulty modes will have some amount of resources and Alterium as the first clear rewards of the stages. Starting from Zone 2, Refined Alterium will also be included in the first clear rewards.

Only Easy and Normal modes will have the regeneration and regeneration cap of Alterium / Refined Alterium as the first clear rewards of the stages.

Note: Player will start with regeneration of +0 / 1 hour and regeneration cap of 0 for Alterium / Refined Alterium. The regeneration and regeneration cap of Alterium / Refined Alterium will be granted after clearing stages at specific milestone, refer to the section.

Clearing a stage in either Easy or Normal mode will unlock the next stage for both modes.

Clearing the Zone's 60th stage in Normal mode will unlock Extreme mode for that Zone.

Your progress will not be carried over from Easy or Normal mode to Extreme mode, meaning you must clear each stage to unlock the Extreme mode for the next.

Currently, only Zone 1 has Extreme mode. Extreme mode for other Zones is slowly being added.

You can check the enemy info for each wave in the stage in Squad Selection Menu. Click and hold on enemy icon to view their details.

Starting with Zone 4 in Easy and Normal mode, and Zone 1 in Extreme mode, each stage will impose restrictions on certain units from entering.

Every stage will have its own restrictions, which can include combinations of types, roles, Bioroid/AGS, or Factions.

Every difficulty mode will have Recommended (or Preferred/Bonus) Unit(s) for every stage in every Zone.

The Recommended Unit(s) will receive various Normal Effects at the start of wave, which can last for the rest of the wave or a certain number of rounds. The Normal Effects are mostly positive effects, enhancing the units' performance in the stage.

However, there are some exceptions, such as in 5-14 and 5-19, where negative effects will be in place.

Clearing a stage in any difficulty modes will unlock additional difficulty options for the stage in the respective mode.

Clearing the stage in Extreme mode with

  • Recommended Units option ON,
  • Restricted Units option ON,
  • Has Recommended Units in the squad, and
  • Clear with only 1 squad

will grant you a Medal for the stage. Currently the Medal is an honorary award, similar to Orca Medal; There is no other reward.

Daily Unit Restriction

Currently, Daily Unit Restriction is only applied to Extreme mode.

After clearing a stage in Extreme mode, whether it is your first clear or not, the units you used will be restricted from entering new stage in Extreme mode for the rest of the day. Daily Unit Restriction will be reset with daily reset, at 9:00 KST.
